Its been problem after problem after problem and I know it won't end. I'm so tempted to just drop the price to $7500 and just pick up a Legacy or something.

I know that feel!

But I just wanna drive mine into a lake, set it on fire, and forget about it.

And pick up a... Legacy.

Most Subaru's are pretty reliable. WRX's just be thorough in any inspection cause I lot of them have lived hard lives. If you can swing it, get a Legacy with the turbo and a stick. I had one, and it's a blast. Someone around me had a turbo-stick-wagon for sale for about $8500

Are you abandoning an old vehicle with a history of issues for a Subaru Legacy?

I have a 2014 Elantra, which has been in the shop 7 times, is on it's 2nd transmission, only has 7,000 miles, and still isn't fixed.

I know how you felt, it happened with my older car every month. Issue was, it would leave me stranded in just about the most annoying places. Once, it even left me stranded right at the front of my girlfriends father car wash. The worse part? Since I noticed it was going to stall I tried to turn left into a convenience store parking lot and it died right were it blocked both lanes of cars coming and going. I still don't know how I found the patience and method of moving it from there, but I did.

It only gets better, I don't know what to say, just be positive that someone will buy it soon.

Nothing new, but I'm sick as fuck of getting terrified at every small sound. It sucks and ruins the whole drive for me. Rather than enjoying it, I'm just constantly apprehensive.

Does that not fall under Lemon Law stuff (if applicable in your place of residence)? Sounds like you got a shitty one. You might drop Steve Lehto (Oppo/Jalopnik's resident automotive lawyer) a message.

I spoke to a lemon law attorney in nc, and from the sounds of things, they get a chunk of the money that you get from the manufacture buying the car back. I am currently working with the manufacture directly, and am dealing with corporate. They are sending in an engineer to evaluate the car on the 28th of this month, and if he can't fix it, then they will consider buying the little shitbox back. I'll see how it all pans out, but I may end up contacting Steve if Hy**dai stops working with me.

Ya thats understandable. Well hopefully it stays solid for ya while still in your hands.

This sounds stupid, but have you driven it hard and intentionally tried to find weak points in it? I did that with my Z the week I bought it and figured out what needed fixing or replacing haha

Yes, but the list of things to make it perfect is fucking ridiculous (nothing needed, but if I wanted it to be absolutely perfect.....). The only thing I probably will need to replace is the front brakes

It's a 20 year old Japanese vehicle, it's going to make elderly noises. I threaten to sell mine every time something goes wrong, but I know it's worth more to me than what I would ever get out of it. I've learned to just enjoy it. Check the fluids religiously, but enjoy it. If something feels wrong, than pull to the side, but don't let a few age noises ruin the experience. It's just part of owning something that is getting up in the years.

Fact is it's gotten to the point where:

A. The investment will overtake the value

B. It's just not worth it. It's not fun to be constantly scared.

I think if you're owning this car as an investment, let it go. I've had similar thoughts about the 2002. It's not classic enough for the price to go up enough to dump a bunch of money into it (but it sure is getting there), but it's not new enough that I don't have to care about it. I started to, well, just drive the shit out of it. I have AAA. They'll come get me. And whatever breaks is bound to break sooner or late, right? Might as well have some fun with it before it does. Fuck it. As much as I'm emotionally attached to it, it's just a car. Everything can be fixed (unless it catches fire or something).

If you don't like cars making funny noises, then definitely don't get a Subaru. They make lots of concerning noises which generally indicate the car is running fine.

I imagine that they'll do their best to solve the problem, especially because Hyundai is trying to improve their image. The last thing they want is a shitty car on the road scaring away people who could be looking to purchase one.

My WRX has 150,000 miles. It's been very good to me...only one major repair in the last 60,000 miles since I bought it.

I took my car to a meet and told one of the guys I was concerned about a ticking noise under my hood. He told me to turn the car on and pop the hood. After listening for about 30 seconds, he said "those are Subaru noises. Get a better stereo."

I want in on this. 2012 smart fortwo.

Alignment bad since delivery (dealer kept making it worse too), it has an pending transmission problem of unknown proportions, the roof has begun crazing (like an aircraft/Corvette window), and since it's running a tiny 3-pot, it's as noisy as an old tractor.

It sounds like you need to lower your expectations. No car remotely close to being worth $7500 is going to be perfect without a lot of work, including a legacy, and Z32's are so much cooler.
